A trip designed for the true lover of Mexican food, here’s your chance to go beyond the tired tourist-path and experience Mexico in a way few travelers have the opportunity to do. This behind-the-scenes culinary adventure with Chef Ivy Stark will guide you through the homes and kitchens of local personal friends and give you the opportunity to learn some of their most famous traditions and family secrets. This is a unique, intimate travel experience with a small group, so you can count on personal attention and a lot of fun! Our trip begins with a brief stay in Mexico City where a crossbreeding of culture creates its own style of gastronomy. In this city it’s hard to walk even a few blocks without seeing and smelling something tempting to eat or drink. We’ll explore hip neighborhoods, open-air markets, street stalls, pushcart vendors and haute Mexican cuisine. From there we’ll head South to Oaxaca where you will truly get into the “heart” of Mexican cooking. The goal is to expose you to the unique and varied cultures of new and old world ingredients and their cooking methods. We will learn the about the regional variation in meats, cheeses and produce combined with the cultural significance of moles, tlayudas, chocolate, tamales and mescal. You will meet the artisans and humble villagers who will welcome you into their homes to dine with their families and cook in their kitchens.
